Hello, I use JMF2.1.1e and jffmpeg-1.1.0. Because the Videos don't play very well with the java codec, I want to use the native Codec. And there is my problem. How can I tell jffmpeg to use a specific .dll (Windows) or .so (for MAC and Linux)? I have read something about to change the path in Jffmpeg.properties, but it doesn't work. What is the mistake? Is it possible, that I use the wrong .dll? (I use the .dll from ffmpeg "avcodec-51.dll") |

Hi, > So I installed JMF and, after noticing it was out of date with > the codecs, Indeed. > I also installed jffmpeg, your product, and configured JMF for it. jffmpeg is not a product, it is a free and open source project licensed under the LGPL. This choice of licensing was immensely rewarded by subsequent contributions, especially from Jonathan who is responsible for the all-Java part of jffmpeg. On the other hand, some companies (one from Italy comes to mind) made the choice of "re-implementing" jffmpeg into something proprietary, which I find appalling. > Among the very few JMF examples, I found Transcode.java > When I try to use that class, It seems not to be aware of > the things added by jffmpeg (I thought it was automatic). You need to manually register the codecs through the JMF Registry tool (also accessible in JM Studio) for permanent availability in all programs. Otherwise, you may also register them temporarily in your program before usage. > Could you please give me a hint on how to make Transcode work with > your classes, Please adapt the codecs below to your needs: static { try { String decoder = "com.salyens.sjmf.NativeDecoder"; String encoder = "com.salyens.sjmf.NativeEncoder"; Class.forName(decoder); Class.forName(encoder); PlugInManager.removePlugIn("com.sun.media.codec.video.vh263.NativeDecoder", PlugInManager.CODEC); Format yuv420 = new YUVFormat(YUVFormat.YUV_420); Format rgb = new RGBFormat(); Format h263 = new VideoFormat(VideoFormat.H263_RTP); PlugInManager.addPlugIn(decoder, new Format[] { h263 }, new Format[] { yuv420, rgb }, PlugInManager.CODEC); PlugInManager.addPlugIn(encoder, new Format[] { yuv420 }, new Format[] { h263 }, PlugInManager.CODEC); } catch(ClassNotFoundException cnfe) { cnfe.printStackTrace(); } > or (even better) give me a simpler example of a > Processor that can transcode a file from "any" video format to > (in my case) a swf format file? jffmpeg people, I'm currently working as a developer in a project which uses java as a language. Now I have to deal with multimedia. More specifically, I need to transcode a file from "any" video format to a swf format file. So I installed JMF and, after noticing it was out of date with the codecs, I also installed jffmpeg, your product, and configured JMF for it. Among the very few JMF examples, I found Transcode.java ( http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/Transcode.html). When I try to use that class, It seems not to be aware of the things added by jffmpeg (I thought it was automatic). Could you please give me a hint on how to make Transcode work with your classes, or (even better) give me a simpler example of a Processor that can transcode a file from "any" video format to (in my case) a swf format file? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Please excuse my bad english (spanish is my language). Best regards, Gerardo Blanco |

Excellent, Jonathan, thanks. I've gotten the latest JFFMPEG from CVS, and indeed, with FMJ and JFFMPEG I can play some AVI files. The sample file I tried http://soil.uwyo.edu/sites/courses/ce2070/Example%20AVI%20files/Flecktones%20-%20Victor%20Wooten%20(Bass%20Solo)%20(JV).avi (I downloaded it and played it as a file) Had some timing issues - the video played too fast. I think this is a JFFMPEG and not an FMJ issue: using JMF's filter graph infrastructure (using its "unknown" handler) I get the same result. I have observed that AviDemux does not set the timestamp on the buffer. I am not sure whether this is a requirement of the JMF api or not. FMJ assumes that the demux/codec will set the correct timestamp, but I'd like to change FMJ to match this if this is not what JMF does. I'm thinking JMF doesn't do this, as JMF appears to have the same problem. I notice that the format for this video is XVID, 320x240, FrameRate=25.0, Length=10000 which means that in the event that timestamps are not set, theoretically the (JMF/FMJ) infrastructure should be able to set the timestamps. The codec just passes the timestamp through, that is, DIVXCode.process does: out.setTimeStamp( in.getTimeStamp() ); In any case, my ideal would be that JFFMPEG works with both JMF and FMJ, since I'm trying to make FMJ match JMF as closely as I can. Thanks, Ken Jonathan Hueber wrote: > Hi, > > I have just checked in some fixes to JFFMPEG. Hi, I have just checked in some fixes to JFFMPEG. For the most part these are aimed at FMJ, adding better support for demultiplexers that come "for free" with JMF - that is AVI and MPEG. AVI support is basically functional, but MPEG needs some more work. I have also included some fixes for selecting codecs when using FMJ. I have also implemented sprite trajectory decoding and quarter pixel motion vectors for the DIVX and XVID codec. I will be doing a file release at some point soon, after doing some more testing both with JMF and FMJ. To configure the FMJ Registry, add the following: MIME Types ---------------- video/vob -> vob video/mpeg -> mpg, mpeg audio/ogg -> ogg audio/mpeg -> mp3 Demultiplexers --------------------- net.sourceforge.jffmpeg.demux.ogg.OggDemux net.sourceforge.jffmpeg.demux.avi.AviDemux net.sourceforge.jffmpeg.demux.mpg.MpegDemux net.sourceforge.jffmpeg.demux.vob.VobDemux Codecs ---------- net.sourceforge.jffmpeg.AudioDecoder net.sourceforge.jffmpeg.VideoDecoder Note that the string identifiers used in JFFMPEG may not match what is provided in FMJ. Jonathan - Thanks for pointing that out. I changed the code to remove the Sun dependency, committed to CVS. As far as AudioSystem.getMixerInfo, that is a JavaSound call (that is, not part of FMJ), so you'll have to check to see what the implementation status of JavaSound with gcj is. Hi, Just a note that the class FmjLoggingFormatter.java references a sun.* package class (getPropertyAction), which needs to be removed to compile and run correctly. Also, I don't know whether this is my fault, (or maybe it is just not implemented) AudioSystem.getMixerInfo() returns no Mixers available (IllegalArgumentException: mixer not found) when run under gcj. Does anyone know if I can switch this on, or whether it is just unimplemented? I'll go back to Sun JDK for a while... Sorry. I'll get these committed this weekend.
