I ended up using jetty's logger... At least it can be configured with the VM arguments of jetty launcher by using something like: -DDEBUG -DDEBUG_PATTERNS=com.acme.MyServlet,HttpHandler Maybe I was too conserned on getting log4j running that i didn't investigate alternatives :) Eelco Hillenius wrote: > Hmmm. Hmmm. One thing I did notice is that Jetty 5.x seems to behave quite different from Jetty 4.1.x. Could you try whether you have the same problems when you use Jetty 4.1.x? So, I don't know (yet) about 1), and 2) would usually work by configuring Jetty's logging itself. I have looked at configuring logging with Jetty directly (e.g. by adjusting etc/commons-logging.properties) but that didn't work. I'm a bit short on time here, but I'll try to look futher into it tommorrow. If you come with new conclusions, they are welcome :) Regards, Eelco Andreas Andreou wrote: > Hi, > thanks for the interest... > I too am using commons-logging with log4j. > However, bizzare things happen: > on jetty launch (from within eclipse) > the log file (defined in log4j.properties) is created, > but then nothing is appended to it, nor to the console. > Instead, at the console I get many messages from jetty's logger > the first one being > INFO [main] org.mortbay.log.LogImpl.add(LogImpl.java:109) > I wouldn't mind with that, but this logger runs at the INFO level > and not at the DEBUG, so i can't see my (debug) messages there... > So, to recap: > 1) Jetty's logger seems to pop in, in place of commons-logging > 2) There isn't an easy way to configure jetty's logger to the debug level > (at least without having to write a custom jetty.xml and use that in > the launcher) > Any ideas? |

Hi, thanks for the interest... I too am using commons-logging with log4j. However, bizzare things happen: on jetty launch (from within eclipse) the log file (defined in log4j.properties) is created, but then nothing is appended to it, nor to the console. Instead, at the console I get many messages from jetty's logger the first one being INFO [main] org.mortbay.log.LogImpl.add(LogImpl.java:109) I wouldn't mind with that, but this logger runs at the INFO level and not at the DEBUG, so i can't see my (debug) messages there... So, to recap: 1) Jetty's logger seems to pop in, in place of commons-logging 2) There isn't an easy way to configure jetty's logger to the debug level (at least without having to write a custom jetty.xml and use that in the launcher) Any ideas? Eelco Hillenius wrote: > I also use Log4J all the time (though together with with commons > logging), and I don't have to do anything special for it to work... > Could you give me more details (which version of Jetty, how do you > start up Log4J, or do you use commons logging as well)? > > Regards, > > Eelco > > > Andreas Andreou wrote: > >> Hi, >> Is there a simple workaround for enabling log4j >> with jetty launcher? I also use Log4J all the time (though together with with commons logging), and I don't have to do anything special for it to work... Could you give me more details (which version of Jetty, how do you start up Log4J, or do you use commons logging as well)? Hi, Is there a simple workaround for enabling log4j with jetty launcher? I always get the Jetty's internal logging system when using the launcher. And i would prefer not to edit the jetty.xml file, since the plugins takes care of classpath issues very smoothly, and I'ld have to do this by hand... Andreas Andreou http://andyhot.di.uoa.gr |

I think it would be even better to be able to set JETTY_HOME using a variable like you can find under the 'VM arguments' box of the arguments tab. However, as I am very bussy with both my paid job, and another project, Wicket, I'm afraid I won't have much time to look into this feature request soon. I saw that you are the author of EclipseWiki, so you are accustomed with plugin development yourself. If you could provide a path that solves your problem, or if you're interested in getting cvs rw rights for this project so you could work on this yourself, that would be great. Pls try upgrading Jetty. If that doesn't work for you, please discuss on the mailing list. I'm closing this bug now, as I am unable to reproduce it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=682377&aid=1185611&group_id=118870 |
