Jeti supports the jabber groupchat, also called MUC (Multi User Chat) through the groupchat plugin.
The groupchat plugin has an option to automatically synchronise your status between your status in groupchats and your normal status, enable/disable it in jeti->options->groupchat->link status button
In Jabber there is no way to get the groupchat rooms of all servers, only the rooms per server.
Most servers have different types of groupchat servers, Public chatrooms for public accessible rooms, Private chatrooms for private ones (use them if you want a room with your friends or want a password protected room). Some servers even have an IRC server so you can connect to IRC rooms (user ircroom%ircserver in the room name field of Jeti to enter a IRC room)
Sometimes Jeti doesn't show the available chatserver or rooms, then the chat server might not be reachable from your Jabber server, or the automatic detection is not working. You can try to manually enter the room by entering the chat server (e.g. conference.jabber.org) and enter the room name.
If you want to create a new room just enter a room name in the room field that not yet exists, you should then get a form that specifies what your room can do. Please use the persistent and public searching fields only if your room is interesting for other people to avoid cluttering the room list with empty rooms.
There are some keyboard shortcuts for the groupchat:
/me will show your name
ctrl-m will auto complete nicknames
ctrl-n will insert the current selected nick as @nickname
There are two ways to use the groupchatalerter plugin, you can use it to be alerted to interesting discussions, or when someone calls you.
You can set the alerter in jeti->options->groupchatalerter. Set the groupchat room to the room JID you want to monitor (room@server/nickname). You can specify the rule on which the alerter should react in the match on field. The rule can be tested on a test text with the Test Match On and Test Text fields and pressing the Test button. The Test Match On rule will then select the word in the test text that matches, if there are no matches found nothing will be selected.
The rules work with regular expressions, if you just want keywords to match you can enter the keywords separated by the | character. The rule is case insensitive and the . character will match on every character. If you want to have more complex rule you can find a regular expression tutorial here
The alerter will be on if the chat room is closed (it will automatically start to monitor the room on Jeti startup and if you close the room again if you opened it). The alerter will open the groupchat room if the key finds a word in the groupchat that matches your rule, it will show the last 10 messages before the matching key. You can also enable the "Enable alerter on Minimize" so it also works when groupchat windows are minimized.
You can specify the status message of the alerter in the groupchat and if it should change its status to xa or dnd when you're away instead of keeping the away status.
