Why is everything enclosed in exec("") ?

When I evalute selection "1+2"
i want to see "3" in the python shell.
Instead I see this:
exec("1+2\n\n")

rename current "evaluate selection" to "execute selection" and add another action: "evaluate selection" which does eval() instead of exec().
rename "evaluate buffer in PythonShell" to "execute buffer"
rename "evalaute file" to "execute file"
