Phpbb forum is to replace community forum, which is - forgive me - awful. I hope phpbb forum will be liked by both users and devels. Whether development discussions will be held on mailing lists or on the forum - I don't know. I don't want to force anyone to switch. But definitely forum will be good for communication with users and between users. Forum has many divisions which enables readers to concentrate only on areas they are interested in. Probably a quick informations are better passed by emails. Discussing design or serious cases could be done better on forum, where it will be isolated and easy to return to the subject after some time. > With a mailing list when a conversation starts forking it is impossible to understand who is speaking with who. With a forum conversations are trees that can have subtrees. Regarding threads in forum: phpbb does not support forking. Users and moderators are responsible for keeping to the subject and starting a new thread anytime the discussion goes away from the original subject. I think it's good because every topic has its title and it's easier to find interesting topic than in forking forums. Matthieu, are you strongly against phpbb forum? I plan to start the forum soon. It will be integrated with sf, so new accounts will not be needed for anyone. After some testing period we may close the community forum and advertise a new one. Jarek |
