Yes, I thought that too, that is, if I specified source and target to be java 1.5, I'd get java 1.5 compatible code when using the java 1.6 compiler. It turns out that isn't true. You have to actually use the java 1.5 compiler to get the right class version. This isn't a big deal, since I think many people are using java 1.6 now anyway. I guess that brings up another question -- when should jEdit require java 1.6? Java 1.5 is in the middle of it's end of life transition, which started last spring and ends in October.
