Category: editor core Group: normal bug Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: mezonic (mezonic) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Saving Makefiles Initial Comment: If I have a Makefile (with captial M) and I edit it, and than save it, JEdit saves it with lower m. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: mezonic (mezonic) Date: 2007-09-07 10:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1679033 Originator: YES I have new symptoms: If I create a new file and save it with a name that contains capital letters, than also other editors store it with small letters in the name. This is a new file, i.e. it was not in the file system in my home. But if the file was already present and I save my changes, than only jedit changes the name, other editors not. So it can be something to with samba or file system. I don't know :( ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: mezonic (mezonic) Date: 2007-09-06 15:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1679033 Originator: YES Yes, of course I tried it with another editors. So I this is not a file system error, I think. First I also thought I could be something to do with clearcase, but I already tried it with files which are not under version control. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Date: 2007-09-06 15:25 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1477607 Originator: NO This may sound like a stupid question, but have you tried to do the same with another editor, e.g. Notepad, to make sure that this is a jEdit problem and not a file system problem? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: mezonic (mezonic) Date: 2007-09-06 14:47 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1679033 Originator: YES Yes, the file is let's say in my home directory. I edit and save the changes. Ad 1.) Yes, it is the same for other file with capital letters at the beginning. Ad 2.) I have tried both with and without backup switched on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andre Bender (mumion) Date: 2007-09-06 10:18 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=105305 Originator: NO So you save the Makefile somewhere in your HOME directory, if I get this right? I've got two questions. 1. Does the error also occur if you save another file with a capital first letter and the rest lower case (for example "Test" saved as "test") 2. Does the error still occur if you disable two-stage save (Global Options->Saving & Backup)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: mezonic (mezonic) Date: 2007-09-06 08:50 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1679033 Originator: YES Ok, sorry for the incomplete information. OS: WinXp (NTFS) Java Version: 1.5.0_04-b05 JEdit version: 4.2final FileSystem: I have mounted my home on a Unix machine with samba. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Matthieu Casanova (kpouer) Date: 2007-09-05 23:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=285591 Originator: NO Nice try I tested first with NTFS, but I just tried with FAT32 and it works fine too. But maybe FAT32 could lead to something like that because it has problems with caps in filenames ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2007-09-05 23:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=935841 Originator: NO If windows, which file system?
