Thank you, Marcelo. mar...@gm... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Marcelo Vanzin (vanza) Date: 2006-04-10 02:19 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=75113 This seems to be a bug in Java. Run this on a Jedit window, select the text, click on Utilitis -> Beanshell -> Evaluate Selection, then try to write in the text box: frame(new javax.swing.JTextField(20)); The keyboard tester shows this when I type ' twice with dead keys enabled: Event KEY_RELEASED,keyCode=0x81,keyChar=0xffff,modifiers=0x0 passed Event KEY_TYPED,keyCode=0x0,keyChar=0xb4,modifiers=0x0 passed ==> Translated to <0,b4> Event KEY_RELEASED,keyCode=0x81,keyChar=0xffff,modifiers=0x0 passed And I get the character. The same doesn't happend when I type, e.g., ` twice: Event KEY_RELEASED,keyCode=0x80,keyChar=0xffff,modifiers=0x0 passed Event KEY_RELEASED,keyCode=0x80,keyChar=0xffff,modifiers=0x0 passed (Notice no "KEY_TYPED" event.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Non Ducor (nonducor) Date: 2006-04-02 13:31 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1492544 Also, I think this bug is related to bug 1272216, that complains about Lithuanian special characters, and 1214182, about Finnish characters (this bug also contains a list of other possibly related bugs). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Non Ducor (nonducor) Date: 2006-04-02 13:21 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1492544 I have faced this bug also. I will try to provide as much information as I can about it. AFAIK it happens only in Linux (I tested it only with Gnome and Metacity), with all the JVMs that I know (Sun's, IBM's and Blackdown's). I have tested different versions of these JVMs along the last 3 years, and the bug remained consistent among them. This bug never happened while I was using Windows (2000 or XP with Sun JVM). It hapeens at least in JEdit 4.12 and 4.13_rc{1,2,3}. A think the problem is related to a missinterpretation of "dead keys". I use an ABNT2 keyboard (a keyboard with accented keys used in Brazil). In these keyboard, the expected behaviour (and the behaviour that is maintained through the rest of X and Eclipse, for example) it that, when I press, for example, the "^" key once, nothing happens. If I press any "accentable" character (as "a", for example) the output should be "â". In JEdit this works as expected. But, if I press the "^" key twice, it should output "^". But it outputs nothing. On the other hand, if I use the combination Right-ALT + Key, it is output as I would expect. I checked JEdit's Keyboard Tester and it recognizes the keystrokes, but they do not get translated. If anymore information is necessary.
