Not sure if this is pre6 or if I haven't tried it since first moving to 4.2. Loading a UTF-16LE file loads it as Unicode. (8 bit) Workaround: set the buffer mode to UTF-16 and File>Reload. Note that there is no need to set LE, so something is recognising it correctly. LE was not an option before Unicode spec 4.0 I have checked jEdit 4.1, and the same files load as UTF-16 fine.
