Bugs item #482249, was opened at 2001-11-15 12:27 You can respond by visiting: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100588&aid=482249&group_id=588 Category: editor core Group: normal bug >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Chris Heady (neut6o1) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: App Hangs at Splash Screen Initial Comment: I left Jedit 3.2.2 on overnight (using windows 2000), I tried to open a file and the entire interface froze, and it never came back. I then forced it to end the app through the task manager (it had 40Megs allocated to it). I then tried to open the application and it stopped at the splash screen and would not load the program. This has happened once before, and I tried to remove jedit from my system. Then I installed jedit 3.2.2 again and when I started up the app, it still froze at the startup screen. Then I deleted everything that had to do with Jedit including the .jedit folder in the "documents and settings" folder, and when I reinstalled it finally worked. But then it happened again as I explained in the first paragraph. I have included the activity.log file. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Slava Pestov (spestov) Date: 2002-01-25 16:19 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=2280 property type casting error -- fixed in 4.0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Chris Heady (neut6o1) Date: 2001-11-20 17:08 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=377360 Ok, the connection problem I was having went away, I think it must have been my connection here at work. So I have installed all the plugins I wanted. But I still am curious how to add the command line parameter to jedit. If anyone can let me know, it would be greatly appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Chris Heady (neut6o1) Date: 2001-11-19 10:46 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=377360 Hello jgellene, Thanks for your suggestions. I tried deleting recent.xml (didn't work) then properties. Deleting properties got me past the splash screen and into the application. However, when I went to add back my plugins, it tried to connect to the jedit host, but failed. So I cannot add the plugins. I have included another activity log that shows what happened. Where do I put the command line parameter for jedit. I use the windows executable, so using a -mx on that I believe will not work as it is not a java app. Which file should I be placing the command line parameter on. Thanks for the help, you were very responsive. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: John Gellene (jgellene) Date: 2001-11-15 13:10 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=117073 I've looked at your Activity Log. The freeze at startup is probably caused by the contents of one of your user settings files contained in C:\Documents and Settings\cheady\.jedit. Likely suspects would be recent.xml and properties. Delete recent.xml, then try to restart jEdit. If that doesn't work, do the same with properties. The overnight freeze is the result of resources leaking through the Windows peer classes underlying the Swing API. Besides not leaving jEdit running overnight, the best way to prevent this from occurring is to increase heap memory allocated by the Java application loader. Use the -mx command line parameter to increase heap size with either - mx32m or -mx48m. The parameter must be place before the - jar parameter if you use the latter. The other approach is to minimize jEdit when you wish it to remain open but inactive for extended periods. Let us know how you make out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100588&aid=482249&group_id=588 |
