John, Yes, the profiles directory contained the "server" file. I deleted that and am now running along fine again. Although I don't recall crashing the system... Thanks for your assistance. The application creates it. If you find it, look for "server" there. If you still have trouble, could you also post the command line you use to open jEdit? If you use jEditLauncher, it should be in the bottom, read-only text field of the "Set jEdit Parameters" dialog (also accessible by running "[jEdit program directory]\jedit /p" from a command line). If you don't use jEditLauncher, it is probably in jedit.bat.
