in fact I don't remember this conversation about addNotify and removeNotify, do you have the conversation history?

I think I have the answer. While looking at java 6 doc, it's forbidden
to call directly addNotify for Component and Container. Not for
JComponent. But this evolved and when I connect online to java 7 doc,
now it states clearly: "This method is called by the toolkit internally
and should not be called directly by programs."

That's enough justification to remove the calls from our code. They mess
up gui initialization.  I found no interesting details about addNotify
on oracle's page, but here is a bit of info:
