There may be several reasons. Can you send the properties file (the file named 'properties' that resides in the jEdit settings directory, normally ~/.jEdit), so I can check some autosave-related properties?

I'm having a problem getting the backup in jedit to work. The only change I've made in the Saving and Backup pane is to set the number of backups to 10, the rest is default. I've running jedit4.3.1 on Ubuntu 10.04.

I've looked at the manual, chapter 4 on Backups but I can't see anything which might give a clue. To check out the backup, I opened a short txt file, made some changes and saved several times, but no backup files appeared in the directory. What to do now??

Thanks in advance for any help.
