It would be nice if a plugin could provide an alternate kind of EditorComponent for a particular file type.
The current jEditTextArea is the only concrete example of an EditorComponent that exists.

We could have an "open with editor..." context menu in the File System Browser, as well as in the BufferTabs tab, which shows alternate editors that might be available for this file/buffer.

The EditorComponent can be a mode and buffer property.

This way, we could have an "image viewer" EditorComponent which shows the contents of an image inside the main EditPane.
In addition, we could put interactive applications (such as telnet) as an editof ro a telenet:// virtual file system.

The possibilities are endless. This would make jEdit much more flexible.
