JChassis version 0.2 released

JChassis version 0.2 has just been released. JChassis is both a framework for writing component-based Java applications, and a collection of useful Java components. It's ultimate aim is to make general application development more plug-and-play than the traditional bundling together of JAR files.

This release now uses the kXML2 package (http://www.kxml.org/), making the code size overhead of using the full JChassis framework less than 60KB. Other new features include a resource location service, an object storage/retrieval service, and a shutdown service. The modules to control ANSI-compliant terminals and to generate simple user interfaces on them have been improved considerable.

The JChassis framework is generic: it's not specifically a web application framework, nor is it a massive "enterprise component" framework. The code size overhead of using the JChassis framework is typically about 60KB but can be as little as 15KB. It can be run on J2ME Foundation Profile.

JChassis components go beyond standard JavaBeans to provide support for declaring multiple service interfaces as well as component interdependencies. Developers not interested in using JChassis' framework may still be interested in using it's evolving set of useful components, called "modules", which are packaged in enhanced JAR files called "MAR" files.

All JChassis documentation, including a 21 page user guide, can be found at http://jchassis.sourceforge.net/
