depends on how large the images are, how large the datasets are, etc... there are many things
which go into the performance of generating a chart. A second or two in my experiences is nothing
to worry about. I would recommend mocking up a page or two to see what it really feels like and
then decide if you need to use another technology which requires additional software to be
installed on the client.

Could always use an Applet...
