sorry, for some reason i was thinking you could only do this on the line charts. i think what he is after is having a single bar extend above and below the zero line. Nathanial, you can do this in the current CVS code with a stacked bar chart with negative values in one data set and positive in the other. I posted a sample graph last week. no this is not possible in the current code base. Is it possible to make a graph with a positive value above zero and negatives value below zero in same bar, like a net worth / income expense graph like you see in Quicken? |

OK - all changes for independent Dual Y axis checked into CVS. Now you can plot one set of lines on the left axis and another set against the right. Look at the program in the test directory (DualAxisComboTestDriver) for all the methods. Nathanial - we need an area in the doco to put all this stuff ... C |

Well that's your decision to make. We are using a CVS snapshot from the 1.0 branch (just post the Alpha release) for our production use. We did some fairly intensive testing and QA but only in the areas of jCharts that we are using (3D stacked bar charts, dual Y-axis and combo charts) and only with the sorts of data that we can ever expect. I'm not sure how widely used the 1.0 version is. Certainly the 0.74 release is in use in a number of organizations. In our organization we are all pretty heavy-duty Java programmers so we don't mind fixing or tweaking the jCharts code if problems arise. And the code is very nicely written as well so it isn't hard for us. I believe the phrase is Your Mileage May Vary ... Yes, as you can see from the sample code the dataset index is passed in. Then if you want to count what bar you are up to then you just have a member var to do that, the class is called on every bar draw. I've done this when I wanted the bar colour to change when I reached a 'future' date. C > -----Original Message----- > From: jch...@li... > [mailto:jch...@li...] On Behalf > Of Nathaniel G. Is it possible to have a chart that has multiple Y value ranges, say one bar is measured on value 1-1000 and you want to a second bar to be charted with the range 0-100 or something? So if data set A was 900 the bar would be the same height as data set B at 90. -- Travis Reeder Ecommstats Web Analytics |

I don't think this will work very well for me since the paints are set dynamically while creating the graph, so how would I get at which paint is for which bar from the preRender method? I would need a axisValueRenderEvent.getPaint() or something. Why doesn't jcharts just set the paint for each bar it draws? Or another way of putting that is why does it have the current behaviour? Actually it works fine on the 1.0 branch - that's something I put in. Just set values to negative. Attached chart from the StackedBarTestDriver with these values: double[][] data = {{-280, 16, -150, 90, 60, 200, 150, 60 }, {80, 216, -10, 30, 15, 90, 150, 87 } }; C > -----Original Message----- > From: jch...@li... > [mailto:jch...@li...] On Behalf > Of Nathaniel G. Most of the time bar chart value labels are correct: ____________________________ foo |------| | | bar | | |------|=20 | | | |=20 Sometimes bar chart value lables near the top of the range (default scale used) are squished: _______________________________ |--foo--| | | | | bar | | |------|=20 | | | | =20 Sometimes pushed right in to the bar. Depending on color, not a good thing.=20 |-------| | | baz | foo | |-----| | | bar | | | | |------| | | | | | | | | _____________________________ |

Since showing only one bar chart is normal behavior I will use the = clustered bar chart for comparison and investigate the area charts as = you suggest.
