hi, I'm looking forward to make a PointChart using X and Y Values like ScatterPlotAxisChart. for example: I want to draw Shapes on coordinates (1.5, 2.05)(1.8, 2.12)(3.25, 1.18)(7.65, 0.02). In the User's guide 0.3.0 there is only an example using DataSeries with xAxisLabels. Is it possible to do this? Do you have an example? thanks for any help tom -- +++ GMX - die erste Adresse für Mail, Message, More +++ Bis 31.1.: TopMail + Digicam für nur 29 EUR http://www.gmx.net/topmail |

I solved my previous issue by starting X and setting the DISPLAY envvar. Does anyone have an example of running Xvfb with JCharts? (I'm using 1.3 so I MUST use some form of X) Thanks, Gabriel Mihalache |

Check the examples, it works fine. Use the servlet to generate the chart and store it in the session. From the jsp, call the servlet to load the chart as an image. It is described in the examples and works very well. Regards Gilles -----Original Message----- From: jch...@li... I would like to know if it is possible to create a clustered bar chart that displays the percent contribution for each element of the cluster? For example, if there are four bars in a given bar cluster and they are all equal height, the percent contribution for each bar in the cluster would be 25% - I would like to display this as the value label. In addition, I would like to say that jcharts is a great product and thanks for all of your hard work. Regards, S. Virk |

That demo was a quick hack. Move the rendering of the chart into the paint() method to get it to redraw as in: /********************************************************************************* * * @param graphics ********************************************************************************/ public void paint( Graphics graphics ) { try { String[] labels = {"BMW", "Audi", "Lexus"}; String title = "Cars that Own"; Paint[] paints = {Color.blue, Color.gray, Color.red}; double[] data = {50d, 30d, 20d}; PieChartDataSet pieChartDataSet = new PieChartDataSet( title, data, labels, paints, this.pieChart2DProperties ); Dimension dimension= this.panel.getSize(); PieChart2D pieChart2D = new PieChart2D( pieChartDataSet, this.legendProperties, this.chartProperties, (int) dimension.getWidth(), (int) dimension.getHeight() ); pieChart2D.setGraphics2D( (Graphics2D) this.panel.getGraphics() ); pieChart2D.render(); } catch( ChartDataException chartDataException ) { chartDataException.printStackTrace(); } catch( PropertyException propertyException ) { propertyException.printStackTrace(); } } --- "J. Hi, =20 I have recently began to work with jCharts. I was able to go through = all of the tutorials and examples with no problems, generating charts = with static data. I am now trying to build a test to generate charts = based on data passed in from the user via web app and dynamic sql = statements. =20 =20 This is what I have so far: =20 public class JChartsApp { . . . =20 public static String renderGMCharts(HttpServletRequest request, = HttpServletResponse response)=20 { String chartName =3D request.getParameter("chartName"); String reportName =3D ""; =20 try { =20 if(chartName.equals("chart")) { reportName =3D "jChartsReport.jasper"; } =20 ServletContext application =3D ((ServletContext) = request.getAttribute("servletContext")); File reportFile =3D new = File(application.getRealPath("/proto/mocuser/reports/" + reportName)); =20 Map parameters =3D new HashMap(); =20 byte[] bytes; =20 bytes =3D JasperManager.runReportToPdf( reportFile.getPath(), parameters, new JREmptyDataSource() ); =20 response.setContentType("application/pdf"); response.setContentLength(bytes.length); =20 ServletOutputStream ouputStream =3D = response.getOutputStream(); ouputStream.write(bytes, 0, bytes.length); ouputStream.flush(); ouputStream.close(); =20 } catch (JRException e) { e.printStackTrace(); System.exit(1); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); System.exit(1); } return "validCharts"; } =20 =20 jChartsReport.xml (jChartsReport.jasper) contains a reference to this = class to generate the chart: =20 =20 public class JChartsScriptlet extends JRDefaultScriptlet=20 { public void afterReportInit() throws JRScriptletException=20 { =20 try=20 { =20 AreaChartProperties areaChartProperties =3D new = AreaChartProperties(); =20 double[][] data =3D {{10, 15, 30, 53}, {6, 30, 10, 21}, {20, = 25, 20, 8} }; Paint[] paints =3D {new Color( 0, 255, 0, 100 ), new Color( = 255, 0, 0, 100 ), new Color( 0, 0, 255, 100 )}; String[] legendLabels =3D {"Games", "Events", "Players" }; AxisChartDataSet axisChartDataSet =3D new AxisChartDataSet( = data, legendLabels, paints, ChartType.AREA, areaChartProperties ); =20 String[] axisLabels =3D {"January", "March", "May", "June"}; DataSeries dataSeries =3D new DataSeries( axisLabels, = "Months", "People", "Popular Events" ); dataSeries.addIAxisPlotDataSet( axisChartDataSet );=20 =20 ChartProperties chartProperties =3D new ChartProperties(); AxisProperties axisProperties =3D new AxisProperties(); LegendProperties legendProperties =3D new = LegendProperties(); =20 AxisChart axisChart =3D new AxisChart( dataSeries, = chartProperties, axisProperties, legendProperties, 500, 350 ); =20 BufferedImage bufferedImage =3D new BufferedImage( 500, 350, = BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB ); =20 axisChart.setGraphics2D( bufferedImage.createGraphics() ); axisChart.render(); =20 super.setVariableValue( "ChartImage", bufferedImage ); } catch( ChartDataException chartDataException )=20 { throw new JRScriptletException( chartDataException ); } catch( PropertyException propertyException )=20 { throw new JRScriptletException( propertyException ); } catch( Exception ex)=20 { throw new JRScriptletException( ex ); } } =20 =20 The lines in red are to be replaced with data from a database. But if I = wish to create dynamic sql statements via HttpServletRequest which would = result in dynamic charts, how can I pass things like cityId to this SQL = statement?? =20 (String cityId =3D request.getParameter("city") - in JChartsApp) =20 I would assume that my JDBC connection and query/sql statement reside in = JChartsScriptlet class. Is this correct?? =20 =20 Any help would greatly be appreciated :) =20 -sky |

I'm running the demo java code from jChart-0.7.5, and it shows the pie chart fine. (Windows XP, jdk 1.4.2_0 ) However, if I minimize the window, then bring it back, the view is empty. Am I missing something obvious? Why doesn't the window redraw with the pie chart still in it? Dave |

No, it is not possible in a single request. You could do it in Struts, simply have two Actions. --- damien guinan <gui...@ho...> wrote: > Yes, but the example i refer to and in your documentation makes two trips to > servlets. > This will not work in struts, you make a request process it and display it > !! Yes, but the example i refer to and in your documentation makes two trips to servlets. This will not work in struts, you make a request process it and display it !! Yes you are write about the performance tradeoff i was merely suggesting an alternative. I need to use the example that incorporates both Jsp and the image so what is the solution ? Is there a way to make one trip do all the encoding and display to the Jsp page ? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nathaniel G. I would assume the performance hit for writing to disk would be greater than executing a servlet. Struts does not allow redirection in the middle of a request as the request has already been committed. A http request has a single mime type associated with it; it can not be of html and png at the same time. --- damien guinan <gui...@ho...> wrote: > I did, the problem is that the jsp make two strips to servelts !! I don't know. Are you sure the code below is what is executing...nothing is cached, etc...? Can you try a newer jdk?
