Does anyone have an example of the AxisValueRenderEvent that they would = be willing to share? I am trying to understand how it should be used. Thank you, Lora Lantzy |

Can you make a release package with these features? Those 3d bar charts look great! In any case, if you are willing to become a committer, I think we would all be happy to vote you in :-) -- Nicola Ken Barozzi nic...@ap... - verba volant, scripta manent - (discussions get forgotten, just code remains) --------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Hi, Here's a couple of examples of additions and modifications we have made over the last year to jCharts. Basically we did the following: 3d stacked bar Angled x-axis labels Dual y-axis (reworked the previously submitted patch) Over and under bars (the change in bar and line color was done with existing post event renderers, although we had to add that support into a few existing charts) There's a few hideous hacks in there as well (the no fill symbols on the lines for example) Also did a rework on the pie labelling as well so pie labels were lined up. And possibly some other things that have slipped my mine. The charts have been in production for about six months now, getting a good work out with a fairly large set of datasets. I think what I'll do is run some CVS diffs on the current 1.0 CVS tree and then submit them to the patches directory. Then if there is time and Nathaniel is cool about it I can commit to the 1.0 tree. C |

as I was thinking about it, it would be nice if instead of having the setVertialTextRotation(true) or whatever, there could be a setTestRotation(double) which would also let you rotate the vertical text in the opposite direction. It may be the case that some rotations just looked crappy in which case perhaps having some constants to pass in {0, 45, 90, 135, 180, 225, 270, 315, 360} would solve the same problem. I am working on replacing kavachart with jcharts since the jcharts look fantastically better, as well as as just much easier to design. Anyway I have this (included). However, I would like to angle the x-axis text at 45 degrees instead of simply rotating it vertically. Are there any plans for this? Or perhaps in the interrim I could turn this into a legend on the right, and let the graph span the vetical space uninhibitted. I have been so busy with work and trying to start a business that i have not had much time to work on that next release. However, that business venture has unfortunately withered away <sigh...> so my energies are coming back to jCharts development! I think we should narrow the scope a bit and get something out of the door sooner rather than later. I would like to see an alpha of 1.0 soon, although the documentation is going to be a bit behind on that. We, at least I, need help in understanding how some of these new chart types people have been asking for work, ie how to calculate and display. --- Travis Reeder <tra...@ec...> wrote: > Hi Chris, > > Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll wait for an official release to > use the 3d charts. Speaking as the author of the message about performance details what those results meant was don't run a heavily used web app on a PIII with 500Mb of memory and Oracle and iPlanet LDAP running at the same time ... The production figures (dual Xeon, 4Gb) showed 7 charts a second being generated. Our extranet web app (not heavily used in terms of hits per second) has pages that display 30 pie charts at a time. You can beat the draw speed with a scrollbar but they fill in pretty quickly. depends on how large the images are, how large the datasets are, etc... there are many things which go into the performance of generating a chart. A second or two in my experiences is nothing to worry about. I would recommend mocking up a page or two to see what it really feels like and then decide if you need to use another technology which requires additional software to be installed on the client. Could always use an Applet... --- Travis Reeder <tra...@ec...> wrote: > Interesting. Interesting. So based on that, it may not be the best choice for a heavily used web app, say if you had several charts on each page, then the page would take fairly long (in web terms) to load since it takes over a second at best to create a chart? Would be nice to allow the actual chart drawing to be done on the client somehow, guess that might have to be flash. Or can SVG do that? Travis Nathaniel G. I am just wondering if anybody could shed some light on the performance of jcharts. We are considering using it for creating dynamic charts in a fairly heavily used web application so I need to know how resource intense it is to create image reports (gif/jpg). Thanks in advance. I am trying to render a chart to tab panel; however, it draws the chart not within the tab panel itself but as an overlay to the entire application. Anyone understandwhat I'm doing wrong? _______________________________________________ |
