Hi jBPM-user, I would like to encourage all JBoss jBPM users to come out with their stories. One way of contributing to the jBPM community is letting others know why you picked jBPM and in what situation you're using it. To help people get over the treshold, JBoss has launched the Innovation Awards: http://www.jbossworld.com/innovation_award.htm Don't be shy and tell about your project. You might end up at the VIP executive dinner table with Marc Fleury and other keynote speakers at this years JBoss World in Las Vegas. =20 regards, tom. |

Hi jBPM-user, JBoss jBPM 3.1 final has been released. Downloadable at sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3D70542&package_id=3D= 1 45174&release_id=3D393399 From the release notes: The main updates from 3.0.x to 3.1: * Asynchronous continuations (see user guide Chapter 'Asynchronous continuations')=20 * Configuration framework (see user guide Chapter 'Configuration')=20 * Task instance variables (see user guide Chapter 'Task Management' section 'Task controllers')=20 * Externalized the hibernate queries: (see user guide Chapter 'Customizing queries')=20 * Added support for JSF like expressions in actions and assignments: (see user guide section 'Expressions'). As part of this, the decision expression attribute was changed, breaking backwards compatibility: see also below in the section jPDL XML Schema Changes.=20 * TaskInstanceFactory replaced the task instance class configuration (see user guide Chapter 'Task Management' section 'Customizing task instances')=20 A migration guide is present in the release.notes.html Also check out the updated chapter on Graph Oriented Programming. Now, it reflects much better the ideas and vision that we have for the project. It now also includes references to 4 source files. Less then 120 lines of code that clearly show the fundamental concept of jBPM. Including logging and comments ! I really think that the ideas and vision in that article give a view on how software development will be like in a few years from now. I'm excited about it ! http://jbpm.org/gop I hope it's equally fun to use as it was to develop. Enjoy it ! =20 regards, tom. tom...@jb... +32 14 880 900 |

Hi all,=20 The announcement is a bit late, but we nevertheless wish to inform you of the 3.0.2 release of jBPM last week. This release fixes several bugs and minor issues for which we point you to the release notes. In addition there is also a new release of the graphical process designer plugin. This is the 3.0.5 release of this plugin. The biggest enhancement for this release is the ability to show and edit the transition names directly on the diagram.=20 You'll find all you need on the JBoss jBPM download pages (http://www.jboss.com/products/jbpm/downloads <http://www.jboss.com/products/jbpm/downloads> ).=20 We have also decided to again include a starter's kit bundled with a complete Eclipse installation with this release. We feel that it lowers the barrier to get started with jBPM a lot. Firing up the jBPM server and exploring the websale sample process is only one mouseclick away, tweaking and changing the websale process yet another click. This download is only available for Windows from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jbpm/jbpm-starters-kit-with-eclipse-3 .0.2.zip?download <http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jbpm/jbpm-starters-kit-with-eclipse- 3.0.2.zip?download> . Users of other OS's will have to stick to getting a separate Eclipse download for their platform and installing the plugin themselves. But for the Windows users there is no excuse for not starting this download immediately.=20 Have fun,=20 Koen=09 =09 |

Hi all,=20 A short notice that as of yesterday we released the jBPM core 3.1alpha1 and jBPM GPD 3.0.4 releases. New feature highlights of the core jBPM are asynchronous process continuation, improved flexibility of the persistence API and task instance variables. The persistence API has been changed maintaining backward compatibility with the 3.0 release. Purpose of these changes was amongst others to use Hibernate more directly whitout too much unnecessary wrapping. Some of the API methods and classes have been deprecated and might be removed in versions after 3.1.=20 The 3.0.4 release of the GPD now fully supports swimlane configuration through an additional swimlanes tab in the editor and the properties configuration page of tasks. Another new feature in the GPD is grid support to improve the looks of the process graphs.=20 The new releases are available on the sourceforge download area : http://sourceforge.net/projects/jbpm <http://sourceforge.net/projects/jbpm> =20 All feedback is welcome on these fine forums.=20 Have fun,=20 Koen |

hi jbpm-users, =20 I just finished the update of the jBPM training. It took blood, sweat and tears but the result makes it all worth while. An improved steam course training about jBPM of 2 days. The training has 2 major targets: 1) Get productive with jBPM. hands-on labs are included to practice the technical details. 2) Background information on workflow, BPM and orchestration. The what, why and how. This makes the training also interesting for architects and technical managers. For more information, take a look at http://www.jboss.com/services/training/jbpm =20 The brandnew website is also ready. For a sneek preview, see : http://www.jboss.com/products/jbpm That will be the landing page of jbpm.org=20 =20 Now that i have your attention, i would also like to mention JBossWorld Barcelona, October 10-12. The core jBPM team is going to be there and the JBoss spotlights will be directed at our project. It's going to be great fun and i hope that you can make that time free to join us : http://jboss.com/events/jbossworld =20 regards, tom. |

Hi All,=20 I want to announce via these mailing list the 3.0.1 release of the Graphical Process Designer. The eyecatchers of this release are the code completion in the XML source tab (when the JPDL XSD if referenced) and the addition of a 'Design' tab taken from the WTP XML editor where you see the XML in tree format with the ability to add attributes and children based on the XSD. The XSD reference is automatically added to the processdefinition tag when creating a process definintion using the wizards.=20 In addition to this, it is now possible to add and configure a single task in the start-state node so that a link is generated in the webapp when this process gets deployed (if this is desired of course).=20 Enjoy it,=20 Koen=20 |

hi jbpm-user, =20 JBoss jBPM 3.0 final was released today. This is definitely a real milestone. =20 JBoss jBPM now includes the following components: Runtime engine as a POJO library, a graphical desiger as an eclipse plugin, persistence based on hibernate, a web console in JSF, a BPEL extension for orchestration, scheduler for timers, business calendar and much more. We are very excited about the foundations for our engine: Graph Oriented Programming. This is what makes JBoss jBPM both simple and extremely powerfull. Currently all products and specifications (yes, there are many) have a different model and that holds back adoption of workflow and BPM technology. We believe that Graph Oriented Programming is a significant step towards lifting this barrier. Learn all about the JBoss jBPM foundations in my upcoming JavaOne talk "Workflow, BPM and Java Technology" (http://www28.cplan.com/javaone05_93_1/session_details.jsp?isid=3D270364&= i location_id=3D93-1&ilanguage=3Denglish) You can also read about Graph Oriented Programming (http://docs.jboss.org/jbpm/v3/userguide/graphorientedprogramming.html) at the JBoss jBPM online documentation (http://jboss.com/products/jbpm/docs) In the JBoss jBPM downloads (http://jboss.com/products/jbpm/downloads) you can find the starters kit that includes everything to get started in one easy download. regards, tom. |

hi jbpm-user, =20 jBPM 3.0 beta 3 just got released. Mainly bug fixes, but there are some minor improvements as well. The next two weeks, we'll focus on the webapplication, stabilization and bug fixes. =20 If you look very carefully, you'll notice the new member in the de downloads : jbpm-starters-kit-3.0-beta3.zip It is a package of jbpm sources and binaries, the jbpm database package, the jbpm server (a preconfigured jboss server with jbpm preinstalled) and installation instructions for the graphical designer in one simple download. The main reason for this mail is to inform you that the webapplication is not yet complete. You can already have a look and get an idea about what it will be and how it looks. But it will take another release to get it fully working. Hopefully i'll be able to manage a beta 4 within a week. =20 Gonig to JavaOne ? Then be sure not to miss the JBoss coctail party on monday 5pm to 9pm on top of the Mariott hotel (around the corner of the moscone). Come by, say hello and let's have a drink together. I'll be there and I'm interested in hearing about how you use jBPM in your project. =20 regards, tom. =20 |

Hi jBPM user, =20 Here's a quick update on the jBPM 3.0 development status. =20 We are well on track and development is going steady. Last week, jbpm 3.0 alpha 3 was released. The main addition in that version was documentation and an identity component for storing organisational information. The state of the implementation and the documentation of jBPM 3.0 is certainly good enough to start having a look. =20 =20 The docs are also published on-line so you can already have a look : http://jbpm.org/3/ <http://jbpm.org/3/> Especially, the chapter about "Graph Oriented Programming" is recommended. It explains the motivations and fundamentals of our project.=20 =20 The main limitations of jBPM 3.0 alpha 3 are lack of a scheduler and the logs are not yet persisted. =20 Also, you can expect another update of the graphical process designer. It is taking on a great shape. What i like about it the most is that Koen really succeeded in supporting both the business analyst *and* the developer. While drawing the graph, the xml is generated. But the developer is not forced to point-and-click. Developers easily can switch back and forth between XML and graphical view. Updates in the XML are always reflected in the other views. Another example of what we mean with transparant, white box solutions. No magic behind the scenes, but giving control to the developers ! =20 Currently we're developing the scheduler for adding timers to process definitions. A very nice improvement over jBPM 2 in that respect is the inclusion of a business calendar. Normal working hours and holidays are put in a configuration file. Then the timers can be configured to fire at e.g. in '2 business hours', or in '1 business day'. When this is ready, an alpha 4 will be released. Hopefully somewhere end next week (friday 15 or monday 18 april). That release will also include a persistence bug fix in task management. =20 The final release of jBPM 3.0 for general availability is planned for june 26. =20 =20 Around the same time I'll present an overview of "Workflow, BPM and Java" combined with Graph Oriented Programming at JavaOne 2005 in San Fransisco. Don't miss it if you are there. Looking forward to meeting y'all there ! =20 Check out the jBPM issue tracker for the lates information about the roadmap : http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBPM =20 And last but not least, the jBPM BPEL extension is close to a first release. If you think about using BPEL, don't hesitate and try it out. We'll let you know when you can take it for a ride.=20 =20 regards, tom. =20 |

Hi jBPM user, Today we released JBoss jBPM 3.0 alpha 2. It gives already a quite comprehensive overview of how jBPM 3.0 final will look like. This release includes persistence and improved documentation.=20 The two areas where we are focussing on is documentation and database compatibility. This release includes about 60 pages of userguide, including getting started, tutorial, what is workflow and XML reference. For improved database compatibility we created a separate package: jbpm-3.0-alpha2-db.zip Currently only hypersonic and postgresql are included, but the structure is set to add support for other databases quite easily. We encourage the community to contribute validations of jBPM against your database.=20 Download jBPM 3.0 alpha 2 <http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3D70542&package_id= =3D 145174&release_id=3D314935> =20 Also the graphical process designer alpha 2 has been released. The graphical process designer is an eclipse plugin for authoring the jBPM business processes.=20 Download jBPM Process Designer 3.0 alpha 2 <http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3D70542&package_id= =3D 116692&release_id=3D314936> =20 For questions and feedback, check out the forums <http://sourceforge.net/forum/?group_id=3D70542> . Hi all, =20 We are happy to announce that the first preview of jbpm 3 has been released. Though still in an early stage, we managed to create already a basic set of documentation. The most interesting piece of the documentation is definitely the chapter about "Graph Oriented Programming". The ideas behind "Graph Oriented Programming" were the motivation to start with jBPM 3. Note that persistence is not yet included so you can only take it for a test ride. =20 Download JBoss jBPM 3 at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3D70542&package_id=3D= 1 45174 =20 Also the first alpha version of the JBoss jBPM graphical process designer (or gpd for short) has been released as well. Great work, Koen ! =20 Download the jBPM designer (jbpm-gpd-3.0-alpha1) at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3D70542&package_id=3D= 1 16692 =20 Have a look, enjoy and if you have any feedback, we are very happy to hear about it on the forums. =20 regards, tom. =20 |

Dear JBoss jBPM users, =20 The team has the pleasure to announce the 'official' opening of the JBoss jBPM wiki. The URL of the wiki is : http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=3DJbpmWiki. Ronald has put together an impressive amount of information concerning the use of our beloved workflow engine with other databases than the default HypersonicSQL and using other application servers than JBoss. Thanks a lot for that Ronald. =20 Our community is alive and kicking like never before and we would like to sustain this healthy phenomenon by encouraging you firmly to participate in making our product even better. So please browse through the information on the wiki, participate in the discussions and provide your additional comments and thoughts. =20 Stay tuned for news on the upcoming 3.0 version and remember : go with the jBPM flow! =20 The JBoss jBPM team=20 |

Hi jBPM users, =20 First of all i want to let you know that we are getting ready for the very first public JBoss jBPM training. It is targetted for Java developers and architects that wish to gain an understanding of workflow and business process management concepts and how they are implemented in the open source JBoss jBPM product. The training is to be given in London from January 25-26 and then again in Frankfurt from March 10-11. To register or for more information please visit the JBoss website at http://www.jboss.com/services/training/schedule <http://www.jboss.com/services/training/schedule> .=20 =20 The next thing i want to let you know is that we are integrating the content of the jBPM.org website into the jboss website. Somewhere in the next weeks, the link http://jbpm.org will point to the jBPM home page inside the jboss.org website and the look and feel of the jBPM pages will be updated. =20 A jBPM Wiki is also under construction and it will become a major part of the jBPM website. The launch of the jBPM wiki will be done at the same time as the website update. We'll keep you informed when this happens. We are looking forward to all your contributions :-) =20 And last, a merry christmas and a happy new year ! =20 regards, tom. --may the source be with you-- |

Hi all, We are thinking of only allowing authenticated access to the developers forum. Registering at SF is free, and in our opinion, People working *on* jbpm should not have a problem with this. People working *with* jbpm should use the users forum and that will still be anonymous, although we'd appreciate it much if we know who you are, so at least put your name under a message. If anyone has objections to this, please let us know. Ronald p.s. crossposted to both forums and send via the mailinglist. |

Hi jbpm-user, We are heading towards the final release of jbpm 2.0. Currently we are running full steam on documentation-and-bug-fix-mode. So any last comments, bug-reports, requests are higly appreciated. Together with the 2.0 release we will publish a detailed roadmap for the future developments. One of the items very high on our wish list for the next versions is full patterns support. We have been working on implementing *all* workflow patterns (www.workflowpatterns.com) in jbpm. Next week we'll start the discussion with Prof Wil van der Aalst to verify and hopefully acknowledge this work. It would be a big milestone in workflow engine history :-) Furthermore we can say that jBpm is getting more and more adoption in the OEM market. That means that more partners are collaborating with us to include jbpm as the core engine in their own products. Keep it up folks :-) Thanks, Tom Baeyens to...@jb... |

Hi all jbpm-ers, I released jbpm-1.0.1 which includes no functional improvements, only some minor bug fixes... https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=70542&package_id=6980 3&release_id=229369 ============================================= == CHANGES between jbpm-1.0 and jbpm-1.0.1 == ============================================= * added declaration of element key in webinterface.dtd That solved a bug that made it impossible to use the map-configurations in a webinterface.dtd. For example when using the EnumRadioInput HtmlFormatter. * buxfix : fixed a bug in the web/personSearch.jsp. to be used with the PersonInput HtmlFormatter. (NOTE: the person search is not supported by the core jBpm team. the fix was a user contribution) * removed exception masking when no database session could be opened. When a hibernate session could not be opened, the thrown exception was masked with a NullPointerException because there was a session.close() in the finally block. if ( session != null ) has been prepended in all those places. * bugfix : Made the forkhandler-delegation member of ForkImpl transient. (otherwise a flow with a custom fork cannot be serialized) * bugfix : updated the query that searches for active concurrent flows. This fixed a synchronization problem in the join that occured when nested concurrent blocks have more then one concurrent flows. Regards, Tom. |
