jBeacon is a library for easily allowing remote discovery of resources on a network, through simple client and server configurations. jBeacon's backing corporation, Summit Management Systems, has issued a preliminary, and stable, release of the library.
jBeacon is being developed due to a need for resource discovery on a network, when the exact network location of the resource may not be known, or may change, due to prior DHCP configurations and restrictions. It is applicable in corporate and manufacturing environments, for embedded java devices, or servers, especially those requiring a "hands-off" approach to administration. An early release has occurred for use with a demo unit for Summit Management Systems DataLinc demo units. More information can be found at http://www.summitsystemsinc.com.
