Mr Cole,
Two points please.
1) I am just an elementary programmer and since about a year or two ago I have been using version 1.01 which is neat and self-contained. I can find no more reference to it or its successors. The version 2.5 has changed dramatically. Is 1.01 considered a different species?
2) I have been looking for the runtime version of vers 2.5, so that I can learn more about it and start programming. How do I go about it?
I'd appreciate your kind comments
Eddie

There's not much different, assuming we're talking the same "JBasic" - there are two other BASIC-in-Java programs out there.
For the most part, programs written in 1.x versions of JBasic should run unchanged or nearly unchanged in 2.5. The difference would be protected programs which are not compatible between 1.x and 2.x versions.
JBasic still runs as a standalone program without requiring anything else. It does not support running within other environments or connecting to other environments and data sources, but those are completely optional.
You can get the most current version in the File Releases section of this SourceForge project; each package has a source version and a runtime version.
You can also get the current stable development release by going to http://www.jbasic.net/ and hitting the download tab. You can also use the "blog" tab to check on current changes, etc.
Hope this helps. If I've missed your question entirely, fire away again.

Ahem. That previous post should have read "It does NOW support running within other environments or connecting to other environments and data sources, but those are completely optional" in the third paragraph....

One last comment... it's entirely possible from your direct email that you are referring to "jbasic.exe" which is Just Basic - a lightweight version of Liberty Basic. You can find out more about them (and the current status of their program called "jbasic") at http://justbasic.com or http://justbasic.conforums.com
Hope this helps.
