Your machine doesn't seem stable. Its not possible to say if this is because of a software or a hardware problem. X should hardly ever freezes, and strace certainly doesnt do anything special to warant an X freeze. What distro are you using? You seem to be using some yum repository for fresh rpm:s. Im using rh9 + PlanetCCRMA rpms for audio apps, with the dag and at repositories. Since I did this my box is slightly less stable than a stock rh9.
