Well done finding that one...it's one of those type of problems that seem to defy rational logic....even if the gear is branded 'logitec'...;-) It's also a bit strange it asked for the disk again. because really, what you've done should only have necessitated (at most) a few alterations to the system xconfig....(if you want to send me your xf86config file I could look and unravel what the madriva makeup looks like)...
