Hi Paul,
             I'm just quickly replying here so you know things did get
through and you're not being ignored (-;

Pete is the current project leader, but he's a rather busy fellow at present.

I feel quite sure he'll respond to your offer to help just as soon as he
has time to. In the interim, you might try out building jazz++ from
svn as described on the jazz++ website, and let us know what you
discover relative to your Ubuntu installation.
