I grepped through the source code, and WXHELPFILES isn't used anywhere. 
  I don't have help building yet.

JAZZ is used, but go ahead and unset it.

That file name should have been .Jazz *not* .jazz.  Sorry about that. 
Do you have a $HOME/.Jazz file?
