Visit the ALSA website and look at the supported sound card matrix.
It's quite extensive; you have lots of options. I got a M-audio
Delta 1010. I think that ALSA supports USB, but not FireWire. Just
look at the website to be sure.

My equipment is Alesis, both e-drums & keys.

Jazz++ has never done score editing nor sheet music.
Rosegarden does sheet music, runs great on Mandrake, and comes with
the install CDs (DVD) for Mandrake (now Mandriva).
