I rewrote it to read a file with "news" about the system (one which will be very easy to generate if ever an "administration panel" is added to jawmail, or by hand).
My roommate suggested to use the jawmail database instead.

If nothing else, open a Sourceforge project for your code additions. Dunno if the author(s) are working on something similar, or are already looking at your code, but I suspect there are Jawmail users who would love to see what you've done.
