So I have the boats entered, but the the handicap isn't being applied and the classes are scored separately. How can I get all boats scored as one group, with the portsmouth yardstick used to adjust times? So setup divisions based on class. I'm assuming we can then have all divisions participate in a race and the results will apply the handicap and rank the finishers. I'll take another shot at this tonight Philip > > Otherwise, I think the embedded help and the sample regattas ought to get you going. > > Sandy > > On May 7, 2014, at 9:30 PM, jav...@li... wrote: > >> From: Philip Balister <ph...@ba...> >> Subject: How to score a local race series with java score >> Date: May 7, 2014 at 9:03:36 PM EDT >> To: jav...@li... >> >> >> I interested in scoring a local race series with javascore. >> >> THis is a fairly relaxed races series, with boats from all classes. I interested in scoring a local race series with javascore. THis is a fairly relaxed races series, with boats from all classes. We handicap with the Portsmouth Yardstick. There is a spreadsheet someone created a few years ago, but I am trying to make it easier :) We have spring, summer and fall series. Three or more races per series (depending on wind). I'm getting a little confused by the classes, divisions and fleets. Can you give me a quick run through how to best create all the entries for the boats? Thanks, Philip |

I am pleased to announce the official release of Javascore version 5.6.02. It fixes a couple of bugs in 5.6.01... most notably I managed to introduce a silly bug that broke the program entirely for foreign languages... all better now Also fixed a glitch in entering redress points, and some issues in the interface for medal race handling. As always the release can be obtained from http://www.gromurph.org/javascore and is free of charge |

I am pleased to announce the official release of Javascore version 5.6.01. Accumulated mix of bugs and some minor new features. Primary new features include: But includes some new features: support for ISAF World Cup scoring - including scoring for the medal race and export using ISAF's "XRR" xml export format; expanded time-based penalties and more flexible redress abbreviations can now add a boat's division/subdivision as a column in reporting in the reporting, the names of the html files containing individual race results has been changed to include the regatta file name. This now allows you to upload more than one regatta to the same target web directory without stepping on file names. (the individual races are still in separate files, an all-in-one html file is still on the to-do list) Fledgling support for Swedish names tags - thanx to Frank Bach Several annoying bugs fixed including: the occasional bizarre case of giving a class winner 2 points better formatting of division start times ordering of starting divisions in a race dialog improved scoring labels changed to 2009 rules As always the release can be obtained from http://www.gromurph.org/javascore and is free of charge |

I am pleased to announce the long overdue release of version 5.4.1 of Javascore. Several bug fixes, improved Mac support (I now have a MacBook with Windows Vista and Mac Leopard installed), improved links to browsers, and much better support for split fleet regattas (that gold/silver thing). OH - also a NEW installer - works with Vista! Go to www.gromurph.org/javascore to get a copy. Sandy |

(You are receiving this email because you are a subscriber to the "javascore-users" mailing list. To unsubscribe, go to: gromurph.org/javascore and click on "Mailing List" on the left) Dear Javascore User: Version 5.1 is now out the door. Fixes several bugs, including bugs in Snipe and Iceboat scoring, support olympic-path medal race scoring (ability to "weight" races and ability to flag a race as non-discardable). Also improvements and bug fixes to splitting large classes into multiple sub-divisions for qualifying series. This release requires use of Java version 5. If you don't have Java 5 yet, click on the "get Java" logo on the left for Windows and Linux. For Macintoshes go to: <http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/java/> http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/java/. NOTE: the installer program has been modified, for ALL users (Windows, Mac, Linux) you now execute (double-click) "JavascoreInstall_v51_03.jar". And THEN to run javascore after installing it... double click on "JavaScore.jar" file in the installation directory. (Sorry no automatic built-in, cool, icon or shortcut yet. Workin' on it). NOTE: Mac users, the above has been tested successfully on a Mac, but I'm also working on getting a Mac-specific installation bundle that will better tie in executing Javascore with Mac OS. NOTE: Mac users, for now you have set Javascore up to use the "internal browser" (see File | Preferences). |

I have just released JavaScore version 3.1.3... it is a small bug fix release, with very few new features... here's what's new: - Bugs fixed in Finish Dialog: --When press insert to make a "hole" for a boat in the finish list, then double click on a boat in the Unfinish list.... boat was disappearing entirely until dialog reopened, now shows in finish slot as expected -- When press Insert and Delete, the cursor stays in the expected row (was jumping to top of the form) - Bug fix in Penalty Dialog: can now manually score any finish, regardless of other penalties assigned - Overhaul of penalty displays in the series reports (slims down the report) DNF no longer displayed in conjunction with a DSQ penalty, - When ask to suppress penalty points in series reports, points suppression is smarter, and bug with occasionally missing throwout brackets corrected. - Added new report: Entries by Rating - NOTE: no changes/improvements have been made to support for changing division parameters (splits or handicap system) in an existing regatta. (Wanted to do it right and didn't want to hold up other bug fixes) - Single Race Report was not sorting on points - now it is - Races are now sorted correctly (by date/time of start, then by name of the race). Sorting is re-checked prior to scoring and when the Race/Finish dialog is opened. The new release is available at the javascore website: www.gromurph.org/javascore If you would like to be removed from this mailing list, go to the javascore website and click on mailing lists. For the relatively new users on the Javascore mailing list, apparently I misspoke last night (or sourceforge has changed their policies, I'm not sure which)... But when I add the new users, you apparently get a nice welcome message, but do not need to do anything else to get on the list. I had thought incorrectly that you had to confirm something, you don't. So welcome and enjoy. If you don't want to be on the list, you can go to http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/javascore-users and follow the instructions, there. Usually this list generates about 2 emails a month, so it is not high traffic... Little blips of activity around a release. |

I've just released Javascore 3.1.1, which is mostly a minor bug fix release. The most significant bugs that have been fixed are: - finding a browser to show the reports has been improved. If you have not already explicitly specified a browser, Javascore will see if it can find Internet Explorer and set a direct link to it. It used to have a more indirect route that has been causing more and more problems with Windows users. - Fleet scoring for a set of handicap classes has had a significant glitch corrected - You can now append newly imported entries to an existing list of entries As always, you can download Javascore and see what else is new in the 3.1.2 from: www.gromurph.org/javascore |

Ahoy! I am writing you with a special 'heads up' on a charitable raffle that is getting ready for it's official launch. You are receiving this as an early courtesy notice because of your interest in boating. The Gift Of Love Foundation is raffling off Wm. F. Buckley's 1963 Schooner (See his book 'Airborne!") as soon as all the tickets are sold. There are a very few tickets as well, as we decided that for this raffle, we would keep the tickets just high enough to ensure that the winner is serious about wanting a classic wooden schooner. The Cyrano is exceptionally roomy and makes a perfect live-aboard. It has a full galley with 4 burner shipmate stove and oven, full sized fridge, walk in closet, deep soaking bath tub, washer/dryer, and large cabin topside. Cyrano was built in 1963 is 80' long, has a beam of 18 feet and a draft of 6½ feet. She is all wood, and powered by a 6 cylinder Perkins that gives her 10½ knots under power There are photos and more specifics about the schooner Cyrano at www.MyRaffleSite.com Net proceeds of our raffles are distributed to organizations dedicated towards making the world a better place. Please check back frequently for updates and new drawings, as the content is subject to change. This classic Schooner doesn't need much to be ready to go cruising again, and the winning ticket not only wins the Cyrano, but $20,000 as well!!! Imagine owning your own yacht right on San Francisco Bay! Perfect for a home, vacation getaway, or even an office !!! This beautiful yacht is going to go fast... Don't miss out on the opportunity to win your piece of history!! Perhaps you don't need a home, imagine yourself renting the Cyrano out as an office space, or even a live aboard... Earn great income, with the Bay Area's high rent rates, this yacht might rent out for $1,500 to $2,500 per month!!! We will be having the official launch of our Raffle site on July first, so get your tickets TODAY!!! Thank you and Good Luck! T.P. I've just released Javascore 3.1.1, it fixes a few glitches reported on the April release of 3.0.1, AND more important contains the amended ISAF lowpoint tiebreaking that went into effect on June 1, 2002. I recommend switching to Javascore 3.1.1 immediately as these tiebreaker changes can have an impact more often that you might think. As always, you can download Javascore and see what else is new in the 3.1.1 from: www.gromurph.org/javascore |

Hi all, I just installed JavaScore 3.1 and tried to set a simple regatta to test the program. But I found dificulties in using cyrilic charset (win-1251). The regatta XML file is OK, but when I try to reopen it, JavaScore does not recognise the charset and shows "???" :-((( I also took a try on localising the software and searched fo any directive for setting defaulth charset for the program to work with, but found none. The quastion: What is the way to make JavaScore work with different charsets? Milen |

Javascore version 3.0.1 has been released. Download at: www.gromurph.org/javascore Major new features (more details - Fleet and SubDivision scoring added - New scoring and handicapping systems Snipe Class, 2001-2004 PHRF Time on Time Preliminary Portsmouth support - New Throwout features 1 throwout per x races count x best races only - Reporting options option to show rating only (and not name of the rating), eg 35 instead of PHRF/35) option in series reports to not include penalty points, eg DNC instead of DNC/35 option in series reports to show just the <x> most recent races improved behind-the-scenes HTML coding on Finish sheet option, duplicate sail number section added - File menu now remembers the last 3 regattas for quick re-opening - Warnings added on: duplicate sail numbers when importing missing race information for needed for scoring (such as race start time for time-on-time scoring) finish time before start time - Several minor bug fixes (those annoying "core dump" messages) - Initial testing on Java2 version 1.4 performed (it works OK, but I recommend staying with 1.3 for now) PLEASE NOTE: I will be out of the country and unavailble by email or for emergency support, April 26th through May 8th. CAVEATS: a) the german language support for new 3.0 features is not yet completed (you'll see a mix of german and english) b) Fleets of One-design is generally used for qualifying events (orange-pink race on one race while green-blue race in another, etc etc). For qualifying events, it works fine. So do fleets of handicap (PHRF overall combining PHRF A, B and C). IF you create a Fleet of One-Design classes that _never_ start together, results are not what you would expect and are not very predictable. I can't think of a good reason to do this so I chose not to delay release of 3.0 while I corrected this wierdness. |

I've finished releasing JavaScore 2.1 This is the first of either 2 or 3 releases culminating with version 3.0 in March which will support Fleets and Sub-fleets. The main incentive for posting this release is that Javascore now supports multiple languages (that's spoken languages, like French, Spanish - not computer languages). It will recognize regional factors set within your computer and adjust dates and numbers accordingly. If you have installed a new language pack, you can also have the Javascore labels and messages show up in a different language. Now, I only know English (or more precisely, American) so there are no new language packs - yet. Those of you who have volunteered over the last year or two to translate, let me know (and/or see the web page for directions). The rest of you, I'll let you know as language packs become available. The release and documentation and source code as always is available at: www.gromurph.org/javascore Please let me know if you have any problems. Especially check out the Whats New to see what is new and what I hope to add over the next two months (ie before the sailing season arrives). Enjoy, Sandy Grosvenor |
