I have now got JPL to run OK (thanks for the help last
time) and I am now trying to make the connection.

I have ensured that PsiWin is shut off before starting JPL
and I have successfully run the BlackBox app from the
javex.comm package and sent text to and from my psion
5MX no problem.

When I start up JPL and try to make a new connection I
get the error message,

Could not select a serial port.
Please ensure the "javex.comm" library is installed
correctly.

Any suggestions ? I guess javex.comm must be close to
being installed correctly as I could get BlackBox to work ?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Kevan

P.S. I'm running NT4 and a 5MX in this configuration and
Java 1.1.8. Thanks

    Hi,

I enlisted the help of some colleages who know a lot more
about Java than me (I'm just starting to learn) and I upgraded
to the latest version of Java (1.4.2). They had the same
problem on their machines as me, and in the end we worked
out that it was indeed a javax install problem as Windows
installs a JRE in Program Files as well as the SDK area. You
need to install the comm api into both to get it to work (I had
done the SDK but not the JRE in Program Files !). Now that I
have installed that my connection to the Psion is UP !! Woo
Hoo. I'm really looking forward to using this and will try and
contribute what I can to the project (be a user and test at
least - I'm not sure my Java is upto debug yet, but I'll do
    what I can to help).

Keep up the good work, I think this is great idea and project.

I have written a little RTF describing how I did my Windows
install as this may be useful to other Windows users. I attach
    this below.

    Cheers

    Kevan
