After installing the latest JavaEmbeddingPlugin0.9.2 and associated MRJplugin in the /Library/Internet Plugins folder and checking to see that the timestamp on MRJplugin is ok, i accesed Sun's page http://java.sun.com/j2se/index.jsp and clicked on "Do you know which Java Runtime Environment your system is running?" link to detect my plugin version using FireFox 1.0.4 using MacOSX 10.3.9 it crashed with the following message:

Date/Time: 2005-05-23 00:53:12 -0700
OS Version: 10.3.9 (Build 7W98)
Report Version: 2
So, it seems that after resolving the networking problem you're still
getting a crash. This is a _different_ crash, caused by a _different_
problem.
Please test your plugins and extensions as I suggested above. If
you've already done it before, do it again (since this is a different
problem).
The point of these tests isn't to make you stop using your plugins and
extensions. Rather, it's to find out which of them is causing
trouble. Once I know, I may be able to find a way to alter the JEP to
get around the trouble.
The general format of the tests should be as follows: Remove _all_
your extra plugins and _all_ your extensions, and see if this causes
the problem to go away. Then put all your plugins back, one by one,
and see which one (if any) triggers the problem. Then do the same
with your extensions.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Actually, your crash log provides an important clue -- it's possible
that one of your plugins or extensions is starting the JVM before the
Java Embedding Plugin gets a chance to. If so, this will need to
change -- the Java Embedding Plugin needs to be the program that
starts the JVM.
Once again, please test without any of your extra plugins or any of
your extensions. I assume this will cause all your problems (there
may still be several) to go away. If it doesn't please let me know.
Then, if doing this _has_ made all your problems go away, put your
plugins and extensions back, one by one, until problems start
recurring.

I take it you mean by extensions the Java extensions. I f so i do have many of them. Before I take them out and reinstall them one by one take a look at this i found at the ~Library/Logs under JavaNativeCrash_pidxxxx.log:

> I take it you mean by extensions the Java extensions
I actually meant both Java and Firefox extensions (sorry, I should
have said so). But I really need you to remove _whatever_ "extra"
stuff you have until the problems go away. I'm 99% certain that the
problems _will_ go away if you remove everything ... but I do realize
doing this could be a pain. The important thing is to narrow your
problems down to whatever is causing them. If, by lucky guessing, you
manage to find the culprit(s) _without_ removing everything and then
putting it all back, piece by piece, that's fine with me. However, my
own experience tells me that it's often easier to mechanically trudge
through "remove all the pieces and put them back one by one" than to
guess correctly.
By the way, the new traces you've posted contain no additional
information.

I did remove all my /System/Library/Java/Extensions and all the /Library/Internet Plug-ins with the exception of Java Applet Plugin Enabler, Java Applet.plugin, JavaPluginCocoa.bundle, JavaEmbeddingPlugin.bundle and MRJPlugin.plugin. It still crashed it the same way but not on the first attempt. I removed the JavaPluginCocoa.bundle -no difference. I put back the JavaPluginCocoa.bundle and removed the JavaEmbeddingPlugin.bundle -NO MORE CRASHES. The web page -read further- tells me "Detecting Java Runtime Environment.." with a colored bar. After a few seconds it tells me, Sorry!
We were not able to detect your Java Runtime Environment in a timely manner.
Your browser may not using the latest or compatible JRE. Please select one of these two options;" which is "Try again". Again, this page is http://java.sun.com/j2se/jre_check/index.jsp?jreinit=no. Is it possible that in the mirror I chose -a Swiss one i thought - i may have downloaded a trojan? Is there any way I can upload safely this binary or package for you to take a look? By the way it does not fall back to Java 1.3.1 because I found out all I have of 1.3.1 is header files in a SDK and it associated control panel. Because i had to do a reinstall from CD with the archiving option before, I have it on my previous system folder. I guess i should mention that I did try to build the source on my system and it builded fine. I assumed that there was something wrong with the build i made -though no errors came out - and trashed the binaries and used the binaries that came with the distribution instead; but now discovered that there was nothing wrong with the build. I would like to know, however, how to build specifically for 10.3.9 and upwards -you did mention it in the instructions but i could not figure it out since i am new at this. Do not need backward compatibility since I do not expect to be using earlier versions.

I'm still quite certain that your problems(s) (whatever they are)
aren't caused by the Java Embedding Plugin. But I can no longer think
of new places to look to find those problems.
One last suggestion: Do a clean install of your OS (not just an
upgrade), and see what happens.
As for building the Java Embedding Plugin yourself, my Building.txt
tells you all you need to know. Read it a few times over, if need be.
No one else has reported problems remotely like the ones you have
reported. You haven't provided me enough information to figure them
out. I've run out of suggestions where you might look to find this
information. I'm afraid I'm going to have to wait for someone else to
report one or more of these problems, and see what I can do then.

This is a clean install with archiving option. No upgrade, only update from 10.3.6. I reinstalled all the other plugins with the exception of the JavaEmbeddingPlugin and no more crashes. It could be something in my system that is not compatible with the JavaEmbeddingPlugin.bundle but it is not the plugins in the Internet Plug-in folder or the java extensions in the system java extensions folders. When i do a search in the in the finder for "plugin", I do get tons of plugins in other folders. By the way, have you thought of porting the Java 1.5 source on Panther. But even on Tiger java 1.5 it has some problems. However, It seems it is a lot easier than what you have done. No offense, I can hardly program a "Hello World!' program. And since finding the hard way has always been the story of my life, it is natural for me to think of it as a posibility. I began with the makefiles and looking at the linux ones and it does not appear very complex. But again I do not know.

Like I said, I'm completely stumped. I can only think there's
something (or things) that you've overlooked ... but I have no idea
what they might be. (However, if you haven't yet tried all three
Mozilla-family browers, and you haven't tried Firefox without any of
its own extensions, do so right away.)
In the meantime I'm afraid you'll have to do without the Java
Embedding Plugin :-(

I think it'd be easier to ride to the moon and back on a bicycle :-)

I have only tried Firefox. I have tried without the extensions: both Firefox extensions and Java extensions. From reading about the bus error, i came across one suggestion of using a newer Java VM. I noticed in the crash log above that Java VM update 1 was being used. Since i did a clean reinstall with archiving, the Java VM that came with 10.3.6 would have been installed. You think that after doing the updates, it would have been updated too. But since i placed back some files from the saved archive, it is possible that i could have fooled the update system inadvertently and not updated the files. The reason for this hypothesis is that I have the Java 1.4.2 update 2 package. When i tried to apply it, it tells me that i cannot install this update in this volume; ithis volume does not contain a version of java that needs updating.

Do you have a spare partition on one of your hard drives that's at
least, say, 20 gigs? If so, wipe it clean and install the OS there.
Then boot from it and keep running Software Update until there are no
more updates available.
This should give you about as clean an install as it's possible to
get.
And do, please, try both Camino and Mozilla ... not just Firefox.

The following error report describes the Java stack information at the crash.

I did a search on google and found this link:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=600431&tstart=240 which lead me to
http://lists.apple.com/archives/java-dev/2005/May/msg00528.html. I do have some of this 3d java extensions, mainly j3d types.
I bet that is where the problem is.
Embedding Plugin :-(
> By the way, have you thought of porting the Java 1.5 source on
> Panther?
