Java HMO 1.0 Alpha 2 released

This is the second public release of the Java version of the media server for the TiVo Home Media Option. The server allows you to view images and play mp3 files stored on your PC, using the TiVo interface on your TV.

JavaHMO: Progress sofar...

I have implemented support for the TiVo HMO beacon protocol. My TiVo automatically recognizes my Java HMO server!

I have also implemented supported for delivering images, including scaling for the various thumbnail views on the TiVo interface. The images look great on my TiVo and its all quite fast too.

I am now spending time on the infrastructure to handle dynamic generation of images and downloading of internet content. ... read more

JavaHMO: Why am I doing this?

I bought a TiVo2 a month ago and recently TiVo announced a free trial of their Home Media option (HMO).

Sofar I have been very impressed with the possibilities of the HMO. However, the PC media server that TiVo provides is very basic. The user interactions on the TiVo to view and play the media is also very simplistic.

I was interested in how I could extend/replace the server provided by TiVo to do more interesting things like bringing internet content to the TiVo box. ... read more
