After a long period of inactivity for the JES project, a new release is made available. This version coincides with the introduction of a web based administrator module, that is also smartphone friendly.
A new version of JES is available for download.
New with this release is the option to use an internal db as a backend for domains/users/realms. In this case these objects can be administered using https://sourceforge.net/projects/jes-gui a simple, no frills swing user interface.
Trying out this new version is made easy for existing JES implementations by using the version 1.6.1 to version 2 migration tool. All the smtp spooled messages will be updated to the new file persistence format and user passwords will have the {SHA} part prepended to them. Mail configuration entries still have to be manually processed.

There have been multiple efforts started over time to create a modernized version of JES (It is an 8 year old fork of an even older project) that would incorporate features more or less expected from a up-to-date MTA/MDA. I'm happy to announce that Andreas Kyrmegalos has stepped forward and developed a heavily revised and augmented version of Java Email Server that will be released as 2.0 Beta 1.
