Since documentation is not just one task but covers a versatile set of responsibilities and since the documentation team has grown recently it became harder and harder for me to coordinate the efforts of each of the team members. Thats why I was looking for a leader for the documentation team. I asked John L. Reed to take over this position and he agreed. He has my full support and I am confident that he has the necessary qualities to lead the team. ... read more

The work on the next release has begun. The next major release will be 1.1, but currently we're working on release 1.0.1 which features advanced support and loading of JDBC drivers.
Features of Release 1.0.1
- Config file for JDBC drivers to be loaded - Currently the list of JDBC drivers is hard coded. Instead we want to use a config file that contains at least the file name of the JDBC Jar and the name of the class to be loaded.
- Config Dialog to edit the config file of JDBC drivers - the user shall be able to add, remove and delete entries in the list of JDBC drivers
- Migrating list of database connections from Java serialization to XML marshalling - Currently the list of database connection is saved persitently by means of Java serialization, a better method would be to save it in a XML file ... read more

During April there weren't too many activities. The website was upgraded to PHP-Nuke 6.5 and now features a forum. The group agreed on Code Conventions to be used in future development and other important documents have been drafted. The focus of this period was to give the team a chance to help shaping the character of this project. Much thought was put into issues of how to organize the work of this project. The goal of this project is to create an application that allows the user to access and modify data saved in databases. The application shall be capable of interacting with databases from different vendors but hide the complexity from the user. The user shall have a fast learning curve while working with the application. The scope of the project is not to create a full-fledged database client exploiting the full potential of modern database management systems, but to create an application that assists the user during his / her most important tasks. ... read more

We're currently working on a new website for this project. It is currently in the making. Please have a look at it and tell us what you think or what is missing. It's gonna be a website for you, so we care for your opinion. it's available at http://javadbclient.sourceforge.net/nuke/
We are proud to announce that our first release is out. The software showcases the intended functionality. In the table editor you may edit the contents of tables and alter the structure of tables. The query generator allows you to define queries and issue them against the database. The form editor allows you to create forms to enter or display the data in tables.
The current release is an alpha and it's merely for testing purposes. There has been some ad-hoc testing which did not reveal any severe bugs in the software. This software contains some minor bugs and might possibly contain severe bugs as well. We're seeking to use this Alpha release to identify the bugs and fix them. Please support us in our mission and report any bugs you encounter.... read more
