The version of the debian packages for libedit is 2.6.cvs.20020109-7.
According to the debian copyright file:

  Upstream Author: NetBSD Foundation

  It was originally checked out from NetBSD CVS on 2001-08-21.
  (CVSROOT :pserver:an...@an...:/pub/NetBSD-CVS)

The latest checkout seems to have been on 9 Jan 2002.
