Hi! I saw this page the other day (haven't tried it though, I am lacking a windows machine : ): http://cygnome2.sourceforge.net/ If I am not mistaken it is a cygwin port of gnome to use the X server built for it too. You could try this out, it should be smooth to build on cygwin (is there a gcj port to cygwin?).
