Agreed, but I have to say I have had some strange errors: the make stage
needs a new version of gcj: the one I'm using gcj-3.2.2 but it hasn't 
some vital parameters like -classpath etc. ./configure should complaint
about the gcj's version.

Also, after I've left the compilation going on, it breaks with the
following message (when bbuilding glade docs):

Generating api/stylesheet.css... 
1 error make[1]:
*** [api] Error 1

and it stops! I'm unable to say, at the moment, but I've tried few days
ago (when Mark Wieelard reported that too) and it worked well so don't
worry it isn't going to be nothing serious. We just have to make sure,
among the other things in the todo list, that ./configure claims for the
correct minum versions.
I'll say more when I'll get my hand on the other computer...
