[Java-gnome-developer] Re: new projects

  Thanks to everyone for their replies. I have decided to use
java-gnome, but I will probably be trying to use the latest code from
cvs, with gtk+2 support. Therefore, I know to expect lots of bugs and
will try send patches / bug reports to you (I assume the sourceforge
trackers are the preferred method). 

In terms of windows support, I will eventually get the application to
work in windows, but I will do most of the development in Linux.
Therefore, my work in windows porting won't come for a while. 


I'll try to go through the documentation & tutorials this week, then
next week I'll start on the first program - Batch Text Replacer Wizard
(http://tildemh.com/sw/btrwiz/index.shtml). This is a simple test
replacer over multiple files. 

After that, I will move on to my large program, Index Generator,
(http://tildemh.com/sw/idgen/). This has been quite popular for windows,
but unfortunately has not been maintained for a while. I have many ideas
for the interface, which will be quite different to the previous
versions. This very complex as it involves many screens. It will
therefore be a long time before it is complete. 
Both projects are open source, open development, using sourceforge for
cvs, mailing lists and trackers.

I look forward to working with java-gnome and will try my best to send
any comments/suggestions/bug fixes I can. As A start, I will suggest
that the documentation page of your website should have links to gnome
and gtk+ sites (i.e. where all their docs and API references are kept)

linuxhippy: I do know about Kylix. My initial quick testing seemed to
find many bugs in it. Also, more importantly, I started writing my
program when I was learning to program and didn't really know what
exactly I wanted IndexGen to do, so it does need a complete rewrite.
