We're just about to switch over to totally rewritten code to do type
conversions (and in particular, strings), and we already have new callback
handling code that will be in the next release, so the problem may
just-go-away. But, just in case, I'll try out your specific example with
the new stuff (probably this weekend); hopefully all will be well.
