Ah, thanks for the tip. I'll try to do a CVS checkout and attempt to build
it within the next day or two (probably over the weekend, when I get the
most time to work on my project, as it's not something I'm getting paid
for). 

My guess is that I'll probably end up spending a lot of time just figuring
out how to write code to the API before feeling comfortable enough to
contribute back. As I said before, GUI programming is not one of my strong
suits (both in the sense of writing apps with GUIs *and* writing GUI
toolkits); most of my programming time has been in writing compilers,
interpreters, OS and GUIless-server type stuff.
