I haven't done that and it hasn't stopped me from using gnome-2 
exclusively for use *and* development for quite some time.  Though you'd 
just have to change some values in gar.conf.mk
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Uhm... you should post your question there (garnome-list) if it hasn't
be done already.
