[java-gnome-hackers] What's our minimum?

The message from Istvan regarding my use of Java API not supported by
gcj brings up a good meta-question:  what's the minimum Java API we
support?  If it's 1.2, then I need to replace my use of proxy classes
with something more awkward.  Whatever is decided, we should publicly
document it (and perhaps even build using it occasionally ;-).
