I've been working pretty hard at finishing up our 'pango' branch adding functionality for drawing text, and tonight merged that work to 'mainline'. It's looking pretty good at this point. Drawing text to images, screen, and PDF backends are all working nicely. In particular, we have a lovely example of drawing text to PDF which was some good fun (and more to the point, an effective test bed). Serkan Kaba and Kenneth Prugh have both been really helpful testing, and of course Vreixo Formoso was the one who started the branch back in April. This also merges some work on a related 'cairo-image-caching' branch, where I did my best to incorporate some of the knowledge and best practices for image loading and efficient resource management passed on by Carl Worth, Davyd Madeley, and Mathias Hasselman to whom we owe great thanks.
