That's tougher than it seems - lots of people will wave their hands and
say "oh, making debs is easy" without having had to deal with the
intricacies of making something _new_ and which corresponds to [in this
case, Debian's] Policy.

Packaging is tough. A lot tougher than most people give it credit for.

Isn't that what "pbuilder" is for? I haven't run Debian in about 6
years, but some of my partners do packaging for Debian and have
mentioned it. Might want to ask around about it.
