I heartily agree (not that my vote counts for much yet :-). While the
documentation for Execute's async and shell methods suggests they have
unique capabilities, a quick grep of the Gnome source code shows that
they both are used for the same purpose as Runtime.exec(s), often
interchangably (g_get_home gets called a lot using both, for example).
As someone who has had to maintain APIs that promised all things to all
users, I've learned the hard way to just provide the minimum and then
see who complains and why. A smaller API is also easier to learn and
use appropriately.
