I have gone with the second approach.  Check out the
latest code in cvs.

Jeff,

I really like what you did with making findListener more generic so that
any subclass can use it.  This is much better than my idea of
subclassing Vector and makes a lot more sense.  Anyway, I just checked
in a small change to Widget.  I added code in findListenr that checks
for the parameter listener =3D=3D null.  If listener =3D=3D null, -1 is
returned.  This keeps from having a invalid use of null in the method.
