I think it would be nice to to make constants fields (like those in
KeySymbol) public so that one can write switch statements. What do you

I would say ignore it until someday in the future when we can support
Java 1.5 enums. ;) No reason to break our future compatibility when we
know this feature is coming up (already here, if you've got Sun's JVM.)

I don't see what future compatibility would be broken. And AFAIK, so
free JVM has is about to have enums yet.
