Which version of java-gnome are you using?
This bug has been fixed before, but it broke again later and was
identified and fixed again in August. I have ran your test case on the
2.8 line and I don't have any null pointer problems.
Assuming that you're on the 2.6 line and do not wish to upgrade to 2.8,
you should probably get the tarball for 2.6.3, which ought to fix your
problem. The link is provided below. Of course, if all my assumptions
are wrong and you're using the latest from cvs or something of that
nature and you're getting this error, it's probably a good idea to file
a report to our bugzilla. :)
