[Java-gnome-developer] CairoGraphics2D / JFreeChart

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for the help last week, the Context.getMatrix() fix worked for me 
and I have been able to make some more progress with my CairoGraphics2D class (which 
I'm happy to contribute if you want it).  The great news is that I have JFreeChart 
working reasonably nicely against this:

I almost don't believe that it works this well...could someone reproduce what I've 
done and confirm there's no Sun JDK sneaking in there somewhere?

Thanks to Ismael for guiding me through a jhbuild to get the latest CVS
version of java-gnome compiled. (moduleset = 'gcj' and modules =
['libgtk-java'])

The crash you were seeing when using jar files was a bug in JamVM 1.4.0,
upgrade to 1.4.1 and it works out of the box.

Incidentally, I noted on your page that you used "jg-common" and
"cairo-java" from CVS; as you said you're using Gentoo you may be
interested to know that they're available as 

dev-java/glib-java-0.2.3
dev-java/cairo-java-1.0.2

[those packages aren't quite perfect, but they're on their way. When the
gentoo-java team gets out of their current freeze I'll get someone to
fix the bugs I've filed]

Hi Andrew,

Thanks!  I think I originally installed (older versions of) the Gentoo 
packages, which sorted out some dependencies for me, but then I ran into 
a bug which you guys fixed within about 24 hours, so I had to use CVS to 
continue.  I see that there are updated Gentoo packages now, and I'll 
give them a try soon.

By the way, I'm giving a presentation at FOSDEM 2006 about my success 
getting JFreeChart to run with GNU Classpath and Cairo.  I've tweaked a 
couple of things in my CairoGraphics2D class and I'm getting some really 
nice output now - I'll put the presentation and all the details online 
after FOSDEM (at the end of the month).  I'm happy to contribute the 
CairoGraphics2D code to cairo-java if you think it fits (I think it does).
