[Java-gnome-developer] java-gnome 2.5.2 and free jvms

Hi there,

A question I could not answer from changelogs and readme's: is it possible to
build java-gnome (or at least java-gtk and java-glade) without a Sun JVM or
derived (like IBM or Backdown)? That is, am I able to build java-gnome using
only Kaffe or GCJ? If the answer is yes, has anyone tried building it using
MingW on Win32?

Perhaps we need to make this more clear then. Java-gnome does build and run
perfectly with free tools. 

The only tools I know of which don't work with java-gnome are sablevm
(not enough jni support). Getting the latest releases of compilers/VMs
is always a good idea though. 

I don't think anybody has tried on windows, but it should be possible --
could you try for us perhaps?  We would be very interested in seeing the
results. I know a lot of people are interested to see java-gnome in
windows.

I tried several times with an older version, but was not able to get all
the other dependencies (GTK, and its) compiled on Windows, but then
again I have very little experience compiling on Windows.

I, for one, would be very interested if someone gets it to work on
Windows as that is the only reason I haven't used Java-Gnome (I need a
cross-platform GUI).  I'll probably get around to trying again sometime,
but just do not have the time now...

I might be wrong but I believe gtk2 and gnome2 are not
mature enough on the Win32 platform to compile java-gnome.

Yes, i've tested with gcj for compiling and kaffe and gij for running
